Experience
2023 onwards: Design of a demographic database based on anthropological data collected for the Ngaanyatjarra Council in central Australia
2004 to 2017: Trainer and technical advisor to Kastom Garden Association, Honiara, Solomon Islands, in respect of field surveys, monitoring and evaluation, reporting and use of their web-based PHP/MYSQL database. Analysed and reported on member survey data using MS Access and Excel.
2002 to 2019: Consultant on demographic and social impact monitoring to Lihir Gold Mine in New Ireland Province, PNG. Functions included database management, design and implementation of field reporting systems, conduct of surveys, analysis and reporting.
2009 – 2013: Team member, ANUE Census and Survey team, ExxonMobil LNG Project, Komo District, Hela Province, PNG. Collected survey data, designed and maintained an MS Access database for reporting on demographic, social and agricultural data. Provided training and technical support for national staff.
2000 – 2008: Trainer and technical advisor to the Community Based Health Care program in Hela Province, PNG. Key areas of assistance were management support, monitoring and evaluation and the development of aid proposals.
2001-2002: Co-editor and contributor to PNG Medical Journal Vol 45 No 1-2 Mar-Jun 2002 Focus Issue on health and the environment in the Tari area with Dr Bryant Allen, Department of Human Geography, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, ANU, Canberra.
2001-2003: Consultant to NSW Northern Rivers Health Service, Lismore, NSW. Analysed the Merit program using Cox Proportional Hazards Survival Analysis and contributed to the Final Report. Developed data entry systems for the evaluation of the Priority Health Care Program.
2001: Temporary advisor to WHO in association with the TVW Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, Perth, WA. Analysed the effects of routine immunisation on child survival in Tari, PNG.
1995-2000: Initiated and managed the Family Health and Rural Improvement Programme (FHRIP) providing water supply, sanitation, nutritional gardens, mixed livestock and preventive health practices to families in the Tari district of PNG. FHRIP was supported by the PNG Institute of Medical Research and funded using grants from aid organizations and mining and resource companies.
1987 – 2000: Developed and ran a family mixed crop/livestock farm in the Tari district of PNG using local inputs and sustainable methods.
1980 – 1995: Research Officer, PNG Institute of Medical Research, Tari, SHP, PNG. Supervised the collection, input and validation of data in the Tari demographic database as part of a longitudinal pneumonia vaccine trial. Conducted research and analysis of demographic, social and economic events in Tari using demographic data and information collected through questionnaires and surveys. Contributed to numerous publications arising from the study.
