I have experience with a diverse range of food growing systems, including in-ground food growing, wicking beds, raised garden beds, hugelkultur, vertical garden systems and container growing systems.
Understanding soil as a living system and encouraging soil creation through compost-making is always my starting point for empowering people to grow their own food. I have been actively growing fresh fruit and vegetables for more than 30 years, in a diverse range of climates, including tropical vegetable growing and creating Food Forest systems in Fiji and PNG.
I am an avid gar-dener, at home, in community and in my work space, sharing learnings through formal community workshops, per-maculture design courses and school education programs for Kinder through to Grade 6. I provide fresh vegetables for our family, as well as sharing excess in community.
I teach accredited Permaculture Design Certificate courses and skill-share workshops to maximize organic food pro-duction systems, reduce waste and increase energy efficiency, both locally in Tasmania and in Fiji. Also, I am a guest lecturer for Human Nutrition and Architecture and Design students at the University of Tasmania Inveresk Campus, both in tutorials and on-site in community gardens.
Designing and growing gardens that provide the majority of our food and fibre needs, as well as landscape function, aesthetics and therapeutic functions for property owners/clients, and learning centres, brings me much joy by imagining and creating positive solutions.
